-NIE-

Just last week, like ming I went back to NIE for a in-service course. It was sorta weird taking 179 and alighting at the overhead bridge linking both NIE and NTU. Walking along the bridge and trying to find the lecture theatre brings back memories of my 1 year in NIE. I still remember the time King Meng, Kelvin, Mandy and I decided to go to City Hall for lunch and rushed back in a cab. How we walked into the tutoiral late with Starbucks coffee in our hands. The times when we all made such a riotous noise in our English tutorial, munching away happily on CNY goodies. The times when our Geography class went on a hike to Bt Timah and Mr Yee rattled off all the scientific names of the plants. The times when we sat together in the lab agonising over our assignments.

It was only one year we spent in NIE but somehow the 2 days of the course harked back to my days as an untrained teacher. AH sentimentality you may say but I truly wish I could wear jeans and t-shirt, tie my ponytail and sit in a tutorial room listening to my tutor drone on. It sounds strange but I miss being a student. Albeit the 2 days offered me a chance to be a student again. Sitting in the lecture theatre and messaging my friend while the lecturer was talking really reminded me of the times I was inattentive in class as a student. Haha.. Yes I enjoy the purchasing power as a professional but I miss the freedom I had as a student. It is a trade-off I guess...
